Joe Dowden is one of our best known watercolourists. Not only a very talented painter- with an instantly recognisable style, he is also a brilliant technician with a specialist knowledge of paints and surfaces. He is the author of several very successful books.
When asked to comment on some inkjet reproductions of his paintings on Innova paper this is what he observed:
"The prints demonstrate very good detail and excellent colour. The variety of localised colour and subtleties achieved are really impressive. I can easily distinguish precise colours in these prints. For example a burnt sienna is identifiably just that. What particularly excites me about these prints, and the latest developments in inkjet technology generally is that we finally have a natural print medium for watercolour."
Joe now sells limited edition prints of selected watercolours as well as the originals and comments:
" Obviously, the key to much of the success of these prints is the paper.....(which) means the artists have the means to publish their own prints in small editions - even singly if they want! - and sell them locally, and profitably."
