Jackie Simmonds is a well established pastel artist who widely exhibits and sells her original artworks.
"I regularly exhibit, and sell work privately and through galleries, and have often been asked to produce limited edition prints. However, the cost has always frightened me, since I would have to sell a large number before recouping my inital outlay, and there is never any guarantee of sales. However, I have recently discovered a marvellous new printing process called giclee printing, and I have been able to print my own giclee images, at home, on my ordinary computer and printer.
Although I do not have state of the art equipment I was amazed by the quality I was able to achieve, using an Epson stylus color 900 printer. My original pastels which are too large to put onto my home scanner directly, had first to be photographed as transparencies, and then I had high resolution scans made from these, which were loaded onto a CD for me. I loaded the CD onto my computer, and printed onto digital art paper. The print quality was excellent; deep, rich colour, and wonderfully crisp detail. The textured surface of the paper enhanced the print dramatically."
